Several European countries are experiencing serious power outages today, April 28, with millions left without electricity.

RBC-Ukraine has gathered photos and videos from the scene.

As of now, power supply issues are reported in Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and France. Major cities such as Barcelona and Madrid, among others, are facing blackouts.

Due to the power outage, the metro stopped operating, people got stuck in elevators, hospitals lost power, and classes were canceled in several schools.

Meanwhile, Madrid’s international airport Barajas was left without electricity, and the flight information display boards stopped working.

In addition, long lines of passengers formed at the airport exit as they tried to find taxis due to disruptions in the Madrid metro service.

Meanwhile, the airports in Lisbon, Porto, and Faro were operating on backup power sources.

In addition, shoppers in stores were unable to pay with bank cards and had to pay only in cash.

Earlier, Portugal's power grid operator REN said that such blackouts in European countries could have started due to a rare atmospheric phenomenon.
