European Council noted Ukraine's progress in implementing reforms necessary for accession to the bloc. Brussels urged other EU member states to swiftly approve the negotiating framework after its presentation, according to the final statement of the European Council, published on Twitter by a spokesperson for the President of the European Council Charles Michel, Ecaterina Casinge.

In paragraph 32 of the document, it is noted that the respective assessment and recommendations were provided not only to Ukraine but also to Moldova.

"The European Council welcomes the progress of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in advancing on the necessary reforms on their EU path. Further to the submission of the draft negotiating frameworks for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, the European Council invites the Council to swiftly adopt them and to take work forward without delay," the Euro Council's concluding statement reads.

Ukraine's accession to the EU

In December 2023, the leaders of EU member states at the summit in Brussels approved the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.

It is worth noting that the negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the bloc have not actually started yet, as there is currently a screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU requirements, and a negotiating framework is being formed.

It should be added that the European Commission has already approved the negotiating framework for Ukraine's accession to the EU.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal expressed the opinion that negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU should start by the end of June this year.
