EU transfers €3.47 billion to Ukraine for defense and urgent needs

Ukraine has received another €3.47 billion tranche from the European Union. The funds will be used to strengthen the country's defense and finance its most urgent needs, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
How much funding Ukraine received
Ukraine received €3.47 billion under the European Ukraine Support Loan mechanism. The funds have already been transferred to the state budget.
What the funds will be used for
"These funds will be directed toward strengthening defense and financing the country's most urgent needs," Serhii Koretskyi said.
The prime minister also outlined the total amount of funding Ukraine is receiving under the mechanism this year.
Funding allocated for 2026
A total of €45 billion has been allocated for Ukraine under the Ukraine Support Loan mechanism in 2026. As of today, the country has already received €11.6 billion.
Of that amount:

€3.2 billion has been allocated for budget needs;

€8.4 billion has been directed toward defense.
On July 21, the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Executive Board approved the first review of Ukraine's Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program.
At that time, Ukraine's state budget received $690 million, bringing the total amount disbursed under the EFF program to $2.2 billion.
On July 24, it became known that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had eased some of the conditions for cooperation with Ukraine while simultaneously strengthening its reform requirements.
The IMF is insisting on higher utility tariffs, taxation of parcels, and the introduction of value-added tax (VAT) for some entrepreneurs.
