On Wednesday, October 7, European ambassadors plan to remove two oligarchs from the sanctions list against Belarus, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak.
"Tomorrow EU ambs will delist Russian & Belarusian businessmen Mikail Gutseriev & Viktar Shautsou from the Belarus
sanctions list since they won several cases in
EU court," he says.
Jozwiak adds that Gutseriev will remain subject to restrictions, as he was recently added to the sanctions list against Russia for undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity.
The EU officially extended the personal sanctions but removed Russian oligarchs Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from the sanctions list. The decision was made under pressure from certain EU member states.
Subsequently, Euronews reported that all EU countries realized they had made a serious mistake by lifting the sanctions against Usmanov and Fridman.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman would not be returned to the EU sanctions list in the near future.
