EU supports 30-day ceasefire: Now Russia's turn

The European Union has called on Russia to completely cease fire in Ukraine for at least 30 days, states EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaia Kalas (P.
"We join Ukraine and international partners, including the US, in calling for a full, unconditional ceasefire of at least 30 days. It is now for Russia to show its willingness to achieve peace," wrote the official.
Kallas also attached a photo of the statement on behalf of the EU, in which the call is described in more detail.
In particular, it is stated that the European Union remains steadfast in its commitment to a comprehensive, just, and urgent peace in Ukraine, based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law. The bloc also welcomes all efforts aimed at achieving such peace.
"This pause in hostilities could serve as a vital step toward reducing civilian suffering and allowing space for meaningful talks for genuine peace aimed at ending Russia's war of aggression and restoring a comprehensive, just and lasting peace," the statement reads.
It also concludes by reiterating that, as before, Russia must now demonstrate its willingness to achieve peace.

Russia's last chance
Yesterday, Reuters reported that the EU and the US are nearing the finalization of a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. Should Russia reject the proposal, it would lead to the imposition of new joint sanctions.
The source also revealed ongoing discussions, particularly about whether the ceasefire should be declared unilaterally or if Moscow should be given a brief window for negotiation.
"In the coming hours and days, an announcement regarding the 30-day ceasefire or a ceasefire in certain areas may occur, though this is still under discussion," said the source.
It remains unclear whether Kalas' post aligns with the details reported by Reuters.
