The EU will not scale back its support for Ukraine, despite Russia's threats against diplomats in Kyiv. The position of the EU's diplomatic mission remains unwavering, and pressure on Moscow will only increase, states European Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand in a comment to journalists.
According to the European Commission spokesperson, Moscow is resorting to yet another round of intimidation to force Europe to reduce its assistance to Ukraine, but the Russians will not succeed in this.
Christian Wigand emphasized that it was not the first time Russia had resorted to such threats. He added that this showed that the Kremlin was losing the war and its composure. He stressed that they would continue to support Ukraine, expose Russia’s irresponsible and dangerous actions, and increase pressure on it.
He also added that the European Union is implementing the largest sanctions package in history, including the introduction of new restrictions this week over the deportation of Ukrainian children.
The European Commission stressed that the bloc continues to actively finance and meet Ukraine's defense needs.
In particular, defense procurement plans worth 28.3 billion euros have been approved, and an additional 6.6 billion euros is being allocated directly for military assistance.
The spokesperson stated that, as High Representative Kallas had noted, Russia was willing to take greater risks, but that they were also stepping up their actions to increase the cost of aggression for Russia.
At the same time, the status of the EU Representation in Kyiv remains completely unchanged.
Russia has appealed to foreign diplomats in Kyiv with a call to leave Ukraine, warning of preparations for massive attacks.
Moscow claims it will continue to strike targets in the capital and other cities, which it refers to as military facilities.
Against the backdrop of these threats, media reports emerged that Western embassies are developing scenarios to relocate their missions from Kyiv to Lviv or eastern Poland in the event of targeted attacks.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine denies any plans to evacuate foreign missions, and the European Union has already confirmed that the status of the EU Representation in Kyiv remains unchanged.
