EU raises questions over funding for Ukraine: What is concerning its partners

European partners expect Ukraine to provide more specific details about its financial needs and are also taking note of the country's internal problems. At the same time, members of the Verkhovna Rada believe that the necessary decisions will ultimately be adopted.
This is stated in an RBC-Ukraine article titled "Hard winter ahead: How Russia's strikes push Ukraine's economy to the brink."
Europe wants specifics
According to an RBC-Ukraine source in the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine should not count on unconditional funding. He identified the lack of a clear list of the country's financial needs and the amount of funding required as one of the problems.
According to him, European partners expect Kyiv to fulfill its commitments even amid the crisis. At the same time, Ukraine continues to emphasize the need for additional funding.
Corruption scandals
The source also identified recent corruption scandals involving senior officials as another problem. According to him, they do not directly affect the amount of funding, but they create a negative backdrop in European capitals.
At the same time, European countries are more interested in providing funds for Ukraine to purchase weapons from European manufacturers themselves than in directing them toward social spending, including teachers' salaries and pension payments.
Sources in parliament told the publication that they believe the Verkhovna Rada will ultimately be able to pass most of the necessary laws and that Ukraine will manage to make ends meet by the end of the year.
As a reminder, Oleksii Antypovych, director of the Rating Group, said that Ukrainians' moods are becoming more apathetic, while Kyiv stands out noticeably from other cities in the country in terms of anxiety.
