EU plans to double heavy caliber ammunition deliveries to Ukraine in 2025

The European Union plans to double deliveries of heavy caliber ammunition to Ukraine over the course of this year, Euronews reports.
Chairman of the European Union's Military Committee Robert Brieger made this statement after a meeting of EU defense chiefs held in Brussels.
"The goal is to deliver 2 million rounds of heavy caliber ammunition to your country during the current year. So it's about doubling the amount of the last year," he said.
According to Brieger, the EU will encourage member states to produce and procure more ammunition in order to meet this goal.
"We try to set incentives for member states to procure more, to produce even more, using the contracts laid out by the EDA [European Defense Agency]. But also raising new initiatives, be it financial or be it via intensifying the cooperation with the Ukraine defense industry," the Chairman of the EU Military Committee explained.
EU support for Ukraine
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the EU has been actively supporting Ukraine — from economic and budgetary aid to humanitarian projects and the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure.
Alongside financial assistance, Brussels has imposed sanctions on Russia, restricting its access to global markets, technologies, and financial resources.
According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, the European Union currently provides more than half of Ukraine's ammunition needs.
She has also stated that the bloc could deliver 2 million artillery shells to Kyiv by the end of this year.
