EU Parliament wants to deprive Hungary of voting rights - Politico

MEPs from the Volt party are calling for Hungary's voting rights in the EU to be revoked because it blocks joint decisions. They will send a corresponding plan to European leaders, Politico reports.
According to the agency, their plan consists of 9 points. The document, in addition to calling for the deprivation of Hungary's voting rights, proposes to appoint the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, as a full-fledged EU Foreign Minister.
The authors of the text also seek to create a common European army and to ensure that EU treaties can be revised to include new defense competencies and prepare for enlargement.
Hungary in European Parliament
Hungary has repeatedly been criticized in the European Parliament for violating the rule of law and democratic standards. The EU accuses the government of Viktor Orbán of restricting the independence of the judiciary, media freedom and civil society rights. Because of this, Brussels has frozen billions of euros in funding for Budapest, demanding that conditions be met to strengthen democratic institutions.
At the same time, Hungary has been using its veto power to block important EU decisions, including those on aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. This has led to calls from European MPs to deprive the country of its voting rights in the EU Council. In particular, the Volt party has already initiated a plan to impose sanctions on Budapest for its actions that are contrary to the interests of the European Union.
