EU hits Russia with fresh sanctions over escalating attacks on Ukraine

The European Union approved new sanctions against Russia on August 7, responding to Moscow's escalating attacks on Ukraine, according to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
According to Kallas, every new Russian strike on Ukraine is another reason for Europe to increase pressure on Moscow.
She also confirmed that five individuals have been added to the latest EU sanctions list.
According to the EU's top diplomat, all five are directly linked to Russia's military-industrial complex.
Kallas added that Russia's escalating campaign of terror reflects the fact that President Vladimir Putin has failed to achieve any significant success on the battlefield.
"The EU must continue to intensify pressure on Russia until Moscow ends its war," she said.
It is worth noting that on July 23, the Council of the European Union formally adopted a new package of sanctions against Russia, which was widely described as the bloc's toughest sanctions package in the past four years.
Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted another key element of the new sanctions against Russia.
