The European Union has stated that it does not yet have a position on possible accession to secondary tariffs, which the US is threatening to impose on countries and companies that purchase Russian energy resources.

Why China still supports Russia in the war, what Ukraine's Western partners are doing to stop it, and why they have not yet succeeded – read the article by RBC-Ukraine.

"We will not speculate on any measures that have not yet been adopted," the European Commission replies to RBC-Ukraine's request.

At the same time, Brussels reminded that sanctions against certain Chinese companies are already in place, but their scope is limited.

This concerns 25 companies from China and Hong Kong, which, according to the EU, support the Russian military-industrial complex or help to circumvent restrictions.

"All decisions on sanctions are taken unanimously by the EU Member States in the Council. A number of Chinese entities have already been subject to enhanced export controls," the European Commission says.

It also stressed that imposing restrictions on companies does not automatically mean that responsibility is placed on the jurisdiction where they are registered.

"It should be noted this does not mean that we attribute responsibility for their actions to the jurisdiction (third country) in which they are operating," the European Commission said.

US tariffs against India

Earlier, US President Donald Trump imposed additional 25% tariffs against India.

According to Trump, the reason is that Delhi continues to actively import Russian oil despite the war in Ukraine.

Trump stressed that the Indian authorities do not care that Ukrainians have died at the hands of the Russian military machine.
