EU foreign ministers to hold emergency talks on Middle East situation
Today, September 30, the European Union's foreign ministers will hold emergency talks. They plan to discuss the situation in the Middle East, Bloomberg reports.
During the talks, the ministers will raise the following issues:
- Israel's assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah;
- Israeli air strikes on Lebanon.
According to the agency, Iran, which supports Hezbollah, is in no hurry to take revenge on Israel for his death. At the same time, President Massoud Pezeshkian even softened his statements during his international debut at the United Nations.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden said he would soon speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid fears of a full-scale war.
Situation in Middle East
Recent weeks have been marked by a significant increase in skirmishes between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.
On Saturday, September 28, the Israeli army carried out a massive air strike on the territory of Lebanon, which killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The United States of America, meanwhile, calls on Israel to avoid a full-scale military operation in Lebanon and insists on diplomatic ways to resolve the conflict.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal claims that Israel may launch a ground invasion of Lebanon as early as this week.
