Foreign Ministers of the European Union have supported the extension of sanctions against Russia, according to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

“Europe delivers: EU Foreign Ministers just agreed to extend again the sanctions on Russia,” Kallas wrote.

She added that sanctions against Russia will continue to deprive Moscow of revenues to finance a full-scale war against Ukraine and noted that the enemy must pay for the damage it causes.

Sanctions against Russia

After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the West imposed sanctions aimed at isolating Russia and weakening its economic and military capabilities.

The sanctions covered a wide range of measures, from financial restrictions, such as the disconnection of Russian banks from the SWIFT system, to a ban on the export of high-tech goods, including microchips, aircraft equipment, and advanced technologies. In addition, personal sanctions have been imposed on high-ranking officials, oligarchs, and companies associated with the regime of dictator Vladimir Putin.

Last week, Hungary tried to blackmail the EU by threatening to block the decision to extend sanctions against Russia. According to Politico, Budapest agreed at the last minute to approve the decision.
