EU extends Russia sanctions for one week and prepares to expand them

He said the EU sanctions had been extended for seven days, until September 22, to allow more time to find a longer-term solution.
"While EU ambassadors today agreed to give themselves another week to try to extend the 3000+ blacklistings, they will on Wed discuss a new proposal to add ANOTHER 1600 names to that very list," the journalist wrote.
EU countries failed to agree on extending sanctions against Russia at a meeting in Brussels today. They were unable to reach a consensus due to disagreements over sanctions on two Russian oligarchs — Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman.
RBC-Ukraine also reported that Rikard Jozwiak had previously learned that France and Slovakia were blocking the extension of EU sanctions against Russia, demanding that restrictions on Fridman and Usmanov be lifted.
In addition, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said that Russia’s claims that it wants negotiations are merely an attempt to avoid new sanctions.
