Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister Matej Arcon announced that the country is preparing a draft law to prohibit children under 15 from accessing social networks, reports Reuters.

According to Arcon, the Ministry of Education initiated the proposal based on the experiences of other countries. He added that experts in education and digital technology will also participate in drafting the law, which is intended to protect children and adolescents.

"This has been a hot topic around the world and in Europe in recent weeks and months, and with this, we as a government are showing that we care about our children,” Matej Arcon said following the government session.

The official emphasized that the government wants to regulate social networks, specifically mentioning TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram.

What’s happening in other countries

According to Reuters, Slovenia, with a population of around 2 million, is following the example of Spain and Greece, which earlier this week proposed banning social media use for teenagers.

Specifically, a senior government source said that Spain wants to ban social networks for individuals under 16, while Greece is close to announcing a similar restriction for children under 15.

Other countries, such as the UK and France, are also considering stricter measures regarding social media.

This follows Australia, which in December 2025 became the first country to prohibit children under 16 from accessing such platforms.

Notably, in early January, Meta blocked nearly 550,000 accounts in Australia due to the aforementioned ban for users under 16.
