EU country extends free housing program for Ukrainians: new terms
Bulgaria has extended its state-supported program for accommodating refugees from Ukraine, the government's press service announced on June 28.
Hotels will receive a compensation of 15 leva per day until the end of September 2023, according to sofiaglobe.com.
The statement mentions that the government has instructed the ministers of labor and social policy and education to develop proposals for specific integration measures for Ukrainians to be included in the new program. Government officials have been given two months to accomplish this.
The program, initiated in 2022 to provide free accommodation for Ukrainian refugees, allocated funds for state support to hotels. The program has been extended multiple times, although the temporary government has reduced its funding.
Currently, there are 82,473 Ukrainian refugees remaining, with 16,804 residing under the humanitarian placement program. Since the beginning of the war, a total of 1,410,258 Ukrainians have arrived in Bulgaria.
With the increasing number of refugees, Bulgaria has launched Ukrainian-language news broadcasts on national television.
