The European Commission has confirmed that Ukraine will receive a negotiating framework for joining the EU already in March this year, says Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

"Finally, European integration. Its dynamics should remain as high as in the previous two years. The European Commission confirmed that the negotiation framework from the EU side will be ready in March," Shmyhal said.

According to him, this means that Ukraine and the European Commission can start negotiations quite soon.

"For our part, we will do all the "homework" in a short period and count on the efficiency of European partners in making political decisions," the prime minister said.

Negotiations on Ukraine's accession to EU

In December, the leaders of the EU member states at a summit in Brussels approved the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

The negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU have not yet begun, as Ukrainian legislation is still being screened for compliance with EU requirements, and the negotiating framework is being formed.

The negotiating framework is a technical task that covers various aspects of future EU membership negotiations with a candidate country.

Earlier, the ambassador of the EU to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, said that the negotiations could start in the spring.
