The recently adopted 18th package of European Union sanctions against Russia will come into force by the end of this week, said Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission Arianna Podesta during a briefing.

"The 18th sanction package will enter into force within a couple of days, maybe towards the end of the week, if I'm not mistaken," Podesta said.

She added that the European Commission is currently fully focused on enforcing the already adopted sanctions to prevent Russia from attempting to circumvent them.

The EU recently adopted its 18th package of sanctions against Russia. The list includes 22 banks, four companies linked to the Russian Direct Investment Fund, 26 entities associated with the Russian military-industrial complex, and more.

EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas called the 18th sanctions package against Russia one of the strongest since the beginning of the full-scale war.

According to the Estonian Foreign Minister, Brussels has already begun working on the next sanctions package. Moreover, Ukraine has already submitted its proposals to Brussels.
