EU calls on member states to provide Patriot missiles to Ukraine from existing stockpiles

Strengthening Ukraine's air defenses is considered an unconditional priority by the European Union. According to Hipper, the call on EU member states with Patriot missiles in their stockpiles was made by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
Hipper said Kallas remains in constant contact with European governments to ensure greater volumes and faster deliveries of ammunition and military supplies to Ukraine.
In addition to drawing on existing stockpiles, the European Union has stepped up efforts on joint procurement. In particular, weapons purchases under the SAFE program, in which Ukraine also participates, are being accelerated.
Poland is currently considering sending another batch of Patriot missiles to Ukraine, with a decision expected in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Politico recently reported that European countries have largely exhausted their capacity to supply Patriot missiles to Ukraine, forcing Kyiv to compete for every available interceptor.
US manufacturers of Patriot systems have also been reluctant to transfer missile production technology to Ukraine, reportedly concerned that Kyiv could manufacture the missiles more quickly and at a lower cost.
British Defense Secretary John Healey has also urged allies to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses before winter, when pressure on air defense systems is expected to increase significantly.
