EU ambassadors give green light to new sanctions against Russia, reports say

Ambassadors of the European Union member states have agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. European diplomats have also approved other sanctions against Moscow, Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak said.
“EU ambassadors just gave green light to the 17th sanctions package on Russia,” the journalist said.
According to him, the ambassadors also approved additional sanctions against Russia for human rights violations, hybrid interventions around the world, and chemical weapons proliferation.
According to Bloomberg, the new EU sanctions package focuses on Russia's shadow fleet and on people and companies that help Moscow circumvent existing sanctions.
Sanctions against Russia
The EU adopted the preliminary 16th package of anti-Russian sanctions on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine's allies have announced that they will increase sanctions against Russia if it does not agree to a ceasefire. The EU said it was considering further sanctions.
French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also spoke about applying sanctions pressure. US President Donald Trump has also suggested that US sanctions could be imposed if Moscow does not take a step toward peace.
