EU ambassadors approve 15th sanctions package against Russia
EU ambassadors have approved a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. In particular, it is aimed at the Russian shadow fleet, according to the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to the presidency, the package adds new individuals and entities to the sanctions list. It targets organizations in Russia and in third countries that indirectly contribute to Russia's military and technological strengthening by circumventing export restrictions.
The sanctions also restrict the activities of third-country courts that help Russians circumvent restrictions.
It is worth noting that EU ambassadors have met before to discuss a new package of sanctions against Russia, but could not approve it.
Then several countries blocked the package due to disagreements over the extension of the deadline given to European companies to withdraw investments from Russia.
Sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet
After the Western countries imposed a price cap on Russian oil, Russia created its own shadow fleet to circumvent the restrictions and avoid losing profit from oil sales.
Therefore, according to Bloomberg, the EU decided to impose restrictions on the Russian shadow fleet in the 15th package of sanctions.
