The European Union will provide Ukraine with €1 billion in new aid. The funds will be directed towards the production of Ukrainian weapons, stated the head of the EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, according to dpa.

According to her, the new aid from the EU is a "very important sign for Ukraine."

The EU top diplomat made the announcement ahead of his visit to Lviv, where she will express solidarity with Ukraine, as Russia plans to hold its annual military Victory Day parade.

It is expected that many foreign guests will attend the parade in Moscow on Friday, including Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

"I want to stress that all those who truly support peace cannot stand side-by-side with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, who has started this full-scale war of aggression in Ukraine," Kallas stated.

She added that those who truly support peace should be in Ukraine, not Russia.

Kalas also pointed out that there will be no impunity for Russia.

"There will be accountability for the crimes committed," she added.

EU assistance to Ukraine

Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos assured that the EU would provide Ukraine with another €9 billion by the end of 2025.

She emphasized that the EU's assistance to Ukraine is a strategic investment in the security and reliability of Europe as a continent.
