Estonian President Alar Karis believes that his country will be able to avoid war, ERR reports.

Estonian President Alar Karis was asked about the fears among young people regarding a possible war and the need to leave the country.

"I think the answer should be: there will be no need to leave because there will be no war. I am confident that our will to defend ourselves is strong enough. Research shows this. However, we do not want to test it in practice," Karis stated.

According to him, Estonia does not want to test NATO's Article 5 or see if people would flee, take up arms, or stand in defense.

"We don't want this, so we have to do everything we can to prevent anyone from coming here and to prevent even the thought of it," he added.

Diplomatic relations between Estonia and Russia

Relations between Estonia and Russia have deteriorated due to Estonia's support for Ukraine, increased sanctions against Russia, and heightened defense spending by Tallinn. Moscow responded with anti-Estonian rhetoric, the expulsion of diplomats, and the freezing of agreements. Tensions have escalated over border demarcation, the removal of Soviet monuments, and Estonia's support for Ukraine in NATO. Since August 8, Estonia has intensified customs controls on the border to prevent the circumvention of sanctions.

We also reported that on the border with Estonia, the Russians are trying to show that the Baltic states are in their sights and could be next. They have started to organize large-scale provocations.
