Türkiye's peace efforts
In October 2025, Trump said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan could help bring an end to Russia's war against Ukraine.
The White House leader said that Russia highly respects Erdoğan, and he also respects Erdoğan. Regarding Ukraine, he could not be certain, but Putin respects Erdoğan.
On December 12, the Turkish and Russian Presidents met in Ashgabat on the sidelines of the International Forum of Peace and Trust. After talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Erdoğan stated that the war between Ukraine and Russia could be approaching its end.
Before that, Erdoğan spoke by phone with the Russian leader.
During the call, the Turkish President emphasized the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to end the war and achieve a just and lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.
