Erdogan could help end Russia's war against Ukraine, says US President

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could play a role in helping to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump said this, according to Ukrinform.
During a briefing aboard Air Force One on his return to Washington from a Middle East visit, US President Donald Trump was asked whether Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could help end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump suggested that Erdogan might indeed play such a role, noting that the Turkish leader enjoys a degree of respect from Russia and President Vladimir Putin, and that he maintains a strong personal relationship with him. He described Erdogan as a capable and influential figure whom NATO often relies on to communicate with, saying he has never failed to resolve such issues quickly.
Turkey's peace efforts
On October 7, Erdogan spoke by phone with Putin, emphasizing the need to intensify diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Earlier, Trump said Erdogan holds respect from both Kyiv and Moscow and could help bring peace to Ukraine if Turkey were to reduce its purchases of Russian energy resources. Washington is reportedly working with Ankara to curb such imports, potentially offering Türkiye a return to the F-35 fighter jet program in exchange.
