Engels oil base burns for third day after Ukrainian attack

A fire has been raging for the third day at an oil depot in Engels, Saratov region, after a Ukrainian strike on the night of June 6, according to the Telegram channel Astra.
The fire continues to burn at the Kristall oil depot in Engels, which hosts a base for Russia’s strategic aviation. Thick black smoke from the site is visible across the city.
At the same time, Russian officials are trying to reassure Engels residents that the air quality has not been affected by the fire.
"Experts from Rospotrebnadzor continue to monitor the air quality around the clock. Analysis of samples collected today showed no harmful substance levels exceeding limits within the residential areas of Engels. Sampling will continue until the fire is completely extinguished," the Saratov regional government reported.
Strike on Engels
On June 6, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a preemptive strike on two key Russian airbases — Engels and Dyagilevo.
Multiple hits were confirmed at Engels on at least three fuel storage tanks.
At Dyagilevo, Ukrainian forces successfully hit the airbase, causing a fire near the target area.
