Preemptive strike: Ukrainian General Staff confirms attacks on key Russian airfields

On the night of June 6, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out preemptive strikes on enemy aviation airfields that are directly involved in shelling Ukraine. This occurred on the eve of a large-scale Russian attack on Ukrainian cities, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It is noted that as a result of the operation, the Engels airfield in the Saratov region, where strategic bombers are based, was hit, as well as the Dyagilevo airfield in the Ryazan region, from which aerial refuelers and escort fighters take off.
In both regions, powerful explosions, fires, and smoke were recorded, and at some sites–large-scale ignition of fuel and lubricant storage tanks (POL).
“The occupiers’ emergency services failed to localize the fire, significant smoke is observed. Dozens of explosions were recorded in the target area. The results of the strike are being clarified,” the statement reads.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces also attacked a number of important enemy sites on the territory of Russia and temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine.
"The logistical point of the 30th motorized rifle regiment of the 72nd motorized rifle division of the Russian army was hit in the area of the settlement of Kulbaki, Kursk region. The results of the strike are being clarified," the General Staff added.
The military noted that the strike on Russian military sites was a response ahead of another massive enemy missile attack, particularly against the capital of Ukraine.
Previously, drones attacked strategic targets in Saratov and Engels, where important aviation is based. Local residents reported the sounds of explosions, air defense activity, and fires. Read more about this in the RBC-Ukraine article.
Additionally, Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the NSDC, commented on the strikes on military targets within Russia's territory. RBC-Ukraine reported on what significance these attacks have for Ukraine.
