Representatives of the US, the UK, France, Germany, the European Commission, Ukraine, and NATO held talks in Miami on de-escalation and ending the war with Russia before winter, according to US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on Twitter (X).
Part of the discussions focused on the most urgent issues: how to prepare for winter, maintain the resilience of the energy system, and ensure grain exports.
The parties also discussed security guarantees and long-term arrangements intended to protect Ukraine and Europe from future wars. Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction, economic growth, and accession to the EU were also on the agenda.
Witkoff described the talks as productive. According to him, they helped identify issues that need to be worked through before the next US engagement with Russia.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to seek a diplomatic path toward lasting peace.
The Ukrainian delegation arrived in Florida for a two-day visit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had hoped that an energy truce could serve as the first step toward a ceasefire. However, the talks were overshadowed by US President Donald Trump’s diesel deal with Moscow, which Zelenskyy called unfair, saying that the Ukrainian team was being used as a smokescreen.
