Elon Musk receives Ukraine's Order of Freedom from Zelenskyy

American entrepreneur Elon Musk has received the Order of Freedom, according to a decree by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“For outstanding personal merits in protecting people’s lives and freedom, and developing relations between the peoples of Ukraine and the United States, I decree: To award the Order of Freedom to Elon Musk, entrepreneur, engineer, head of SpaceX and Tesla, United States of America,” the decree states.
What the Order of Freedom is awarded for
The Order of Freedom is the highest state award of Ukraine, which is presented for outstanding merits in asserting the sovereignty and independence of the state.
Grounds for the award:
- Strengthening Ukraine’s independence;
- Uniting Ukrainian society;
- Achievements in the development of democracy, reforms, and the economy;
- Protecting the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens, heroism, and patriotism for the benefit of the state.
Who can receive it:
- Ukrainian citizens, foreigners, and stateless persons — during their lifetime or posthumously, by presidential decree.
- A repeat award is not provided for.
At the beginning of August, the media reported that Elon Musk was opposed to the use of the Starlink satellite system for carrying out strikes on Russian territory.
During a meeting with US President Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked for assistance in obtaining permission to use Starlink to guide strikes against Russian missile batteries attacking Ukrainian cities.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov also allegedly made similar requests privately, but the billionaire is currently refusing to make concessions.
Musk continues to insist on the risks of escalation and believes that it is already time for the sides to make peace.
