Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina will not participate in the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.

Why Svitolina will miss Beijing

The withdrawal of Ukraine's top-ranked player was confirmed in the updated draw on the WTA website. The timing of her injury has not been specified.

According to Ukrainian Tennis, the reason is a hip injury.

Her last match was in the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup against Italy's Jasmine Paolini, where she lost in three sets.

In Beijing, Svitolina was scheduled to start from the second round and face the winner of the match between Germany's Tatjana Maria (world No. 44) and Czech player Marie Bouzkova (world No. 52).

Polish tennis player Magda Linette, seeded 33rd, will take her place in the draw.

How other Ukrainian players will perform

As a result, three Ukrainian players will compete in the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.

Marta Kostyuk (28) and Dayana Yastremska (31) will start from the second round, while Yuliya Starodubtseva (86) will begin in the first round.

Svitolina last played in Beijing in 2019, reaching the quarterfinals before losing to Dutch player Kiki Bertens in straight sets.

Svitolina's plans

Despite skipping the Beijing tournament, the Ukrainian player remains on the entry list for the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan (October 6–12) and the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, scheduled for next month.
