Earthquake occurred in Turkiye
In Turkiye, near the province of Canakkale, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred, according to BNN.
The earthquake, classified as moderate, was recorded by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) on Tuesday, February 27, at a shallow depth of 6.9 kilometers.
It is noted that the tremors were significantly felt by residents of the province, particularly in the Biga district. The Turkish authorities have not reported any consequences.
According to seismologists, a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.2 occurred yesterday evening in Turkiye, recorded about 28 km from the city of Elazig in the eastern part of the country. It was at a very shallow depth of 8.9 km and was not felt.
Earthquakes in Turkiye
Earlier in December of last year, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Mediterranean Sea near the popular resort and tourist pilgrimage site of Fethiye on the southwest coast of Turkey.
Additionally, in February 2023, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred near the city of Gaziantep in southern Turkiye, affecting over 1 million people. The earthquake destroyed and damaged 230,000 buildings across 11 provinces in Turkiye.
Furthermore, in July of this year, two consecutive earthquakes occurred in the province of Adana in southern Turkiye.
In August of this year, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred in the Eshilurt district of the Turkish city of Malatya. Over 20 people were injured as a result of the tremors.
