Earthquake hits popular tourist resort in Turkey
An earthquake has struck southwestern Turkey in the Mediterranean Sea near the famous resort and tourist pilgrimage site of Fethiye, reports the Administration for the Prevention of Disasters (AFAD).
It is noted that the earthquake with a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale occurred in the Mediterranean Sea at a distance of 21.99 km from Fethiye near the city of Mugla at 20.33 local time.
The epicenter of the quakes was located at a depth of 29.62 km.
Powerful earthquakes in Turkey
In February of this year, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred near the city of Gaziantep with a population of more than 1 million people in southern Turkey. The epicenter of the shocks was located 37 km from the town at a depth of 10 km. The earthquake affected 11 provinces of Turkey, destroying and damaging 230,000 buildings.
In addition, in July of this year, two earthquakes occurred in Adana province in southern Turkey.
In August of this year, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 occurred in the Eşilurt district of the Turkish city of Malatya. More than 20 people were injured as a result of the quake.
