Earthquake in Japan destroys houses, Russia under threat too
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Japan has caused a powerful tsunami to move along the country's western coast. The eastern regions of the Russian Federation are also under threat, according to so-called Russian media.
In particular, the Ishikawa authorities reported that houses had collapsed in some areas. About 32 thousand homes were left without electricity.
After the earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced a tsunami threat, which is heading to many settlements along the west coast.
According to so-called Russian media, the tsunami threat was also announced in Vladivostok and Nakhodka. The threat of flooding was also announced in the coastal part of the western coast of Sakhalin. In this regard, evacuations were also announced, as reported by the region's emergency management.
"Everyone who is in the coastal part of the Tatar Strait should immediately leave the coast and take refuge on the hills 30-40 meters above sea level... You should leave the hills only after the tsunami alert signal," the message says.
But soon it disappeared from the agency's website, and the Russian Emergencies Ministry said that the warning system had not been launched, no evacuations were being carried out, and there was no threat to the population.
Nakhodka's mayor's office later said that the tsunami wave in the city was almost imperceptible.
