A powerful magnetic storm is about to hit the Earth. For about two days, our bodies may react to this cosmic storm with irritability, headaches, sleep disturbances, and changes in blood pressure. It all depends on sensitivity to weather, as sensitive people feel any changes. Here is the scientists' forecast for the coming days.

Magnetic storm forecast

According to scientists, the storm has already reached a Kp-index of 5 (G2 storm). During the day, the levels may rise to a red storm mark of Kp-7. However, tomorrow the level is expected to drop to Kp-4.

A G2-level storm has a moderate effect on both weather-sensitive people and technology. But the higher the storm's power level, the stronger its impact will be on human activity.

What a magnetic storm is and why it occurs

A geomagnetic storm is the destabilization of the Earth's magnetosphere as a result of a solar coronal mass ejection (CME). The consequences are the emergence of electric currents in terrestrial systems, disruptions in communication and navigation, and possible malfunctions in equipment.

Moreover, many people feel unwell on such days. Symptoms may include headaches, weakness, drowsiness, irritability, and decreased concentration.

Who the storm affects and how exactly

Cardiovascular system

Research shows an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes during a storm. During powerful magnetic storms, disruptions in circadian rhythms, blood pressure, and heart rhythms are possible.

Sleep and nervous system

People may experience poorer sleep quality, reduced melatonin levels, heightened anxiety, and insomnia.

General weather sensitivity

Typical symptoms:

  • Deadache
  • Dizziness
  • Sharp changes in blood pressure
  • Weakness
  • Irritability
  • Decreased concentration

Who is at risk

At risk are weather-sensitive people, those sensitive to weather changes, with chronic migraines and anxiety disorders, people with hypertension, coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, and patients after a heart attack or stroke.

General recommendations on how to protect yourself

What to do to feel better:

Sleep and routine. A full 7 to 9 hours of sleep, a stable daily schedule, and minimal gadgets before bedtime.

Blood pressure control. For hypertensive patients, measure it regularly, and have medicine on hand.

Nutrition. More water, reduce salt, caffeine, and alcohol intake.

Physical activity. Light walking is ok, but without overexertion.

Stress and emotional load control. Breathing exercises, avoiding stressful situations.
