Russian forces damaged the building of the External Crisis Center of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant during yesterday’s attack on Zaporizhzhia, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

"On August 10, as a result of a Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia, the External Crisis Center of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was struck. Fortunately, none of the staff were injured, but the office building suffered partial damage," the ministry stated.

The Ministry of Energy explained that the crisis center is an integral part of the plant’s safety system.

The ministry clarified that specialists at this center continue to constantly monitor the radiation situation in the territory controlled by Ukraine, even though the occupation authorities of the Zaporizhzhia NPP are blocking the automatic transmission of data on nuclear and radiation conditions through the IAEA’s IRMIS system.

"The attack on infrastructure that monitors the radiation situation is further proof of the aggressor’s irresponsible policy, which disregards all norms of international law. The Russians once again demonstrate that their actions pose a real threat to nuclear safety not only in Ukraine but across the entire European continent," said Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.

The Ministry of Energy called on partners to strengthen sanctions against Russia and force it to stop attacking Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure facilities.
