Dubai-based Emirates Airlines bans pagers and walkie-talkies after attacks in Lebanon
Dubai-based Emirates Airlines has banned passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on board. This happened after Hezbollah militants' communication devices exploded in an attack in September, states Reuters.
“All passengers traveling to, from, or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies in checked or cabin baggage. Any prohibited items found will be confiscated by Dubai Police as part of heightened security measures,” the airline's website says.
The largest airline in the Middle East also added that flights to Iraq and Iran will be suspended until Tuesday, and flights to Jordan will resume on Sunday.
In addition, flights to Lebanon will be suspended until October 15 due to the escalation of Israeli attacks on Iranian-backed Hezbollah, including strikes near Beirut airport.
Several other airlines have also suspended flights to Beirut and other airports amid the escalating situation.
On September 17, 2024, thousands of booby-trapped pagers and hundreds of radios of the Lebanese group Hezbollah were detonated during deadly attacks. The blame for these attacks was widely placed on Israel, but the country did not take responsibility.
