Drones strike Russia’s Voronezh region after nuclear plant unit shut down earlier

Train traffic in Russia’s Voronezh region was suspended after an unidentified drone crashed near a railway station. Shortly before the attack, one of the power units at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant was shut down, the Governor of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, the Telegram channel of Russian Railways, and the press service of the Rosenergoatom concern report.
Rail traffic was halted after a UAV crashed on a railway line in the Voronezh region.
“As a result of a UAV crash near the Zhuravka and Raynivska stations (Rossosh-Sokhranivka section, Voronezh region - ed.), there is no power in the contact network. No casualties have been reported. Train traffic has been suspended,” Russian Railways said.
A few hours later, train traffic was restored.
On the night of August 21, five unidentified drones were spotted in the Voronezh region. Following the incident, Governor Alexander Gusev reported power outages in several villages and a temporary suspension of train services.
The day before, one of the power units at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant had been disconnected from the grid.
“On August 20, 2025, at 6:46 p.m. Moscow time, power unit No. 7 of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant was disconnected from the grid by automatic protection in normal mode. The shutdown of power unit No. 7 was carried out safely in accordance with design algorithms,” Rosenergoatom stated.
As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, on the night of August 17, a railway station in Russia’s Voronezh region was attacked by unidentified drones. A railway track worker was injured. A power transmission line was also damaged, causing train delays.
In Voronezh, 10 cars, the windows of one apartment, and a technical floor were damaged.
That same night, explosions were recorded in the Voronezh region, with local residents reporting the activity of air defense systems.
