In Washington, unidentified drones were spotted over Fort McNair military base, where US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth live, The Washington Post reports.
According to a Trump administration official, the military is paying closer attention to potential threats due to the heightened level of combat readiness amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
The source said that over the past 10 days, several drones per night were recorded over the base where Rubio and Hegseth live. This prompted increased security measures and a meeting at the White House on further actions.
According to two sources, the drone launches over Fort McNair prompted officials to consider relocating Rubio and Hegseth. However, a Trump administration official said the ministers have not moved. Their residence was mentioned in the media in October.
The drone sightings in Washington occurred as the United States declared a global threat level for overseas diplomatic missions and strengthened protection measures at several bases inside the country.
Thus, this week at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, the protection level was raised to Charlie. This means that the command has intelligence about a possible attack or danger. The only higher level is Delta, which is introduced when an attack has already occurred or is expected.
Elimination of Iran's leadership
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint operation against Iran to curb the country's nuclear ambitions and destroy its missile arsenal. However, the strikes went further.
On the very first day of the operation, 86-year-old Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had led the country since 1989, was eliminated as a result of the bombing. On the same day, a group of other high-ranking officials was also killed during the strikes.
In March 2026, the losses continued. On the 17th, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, his son, and several other officials were eliminated.
Khamenei's son Mojtaba also nearly died in the strikes and survived only by chance. The media reported that due to his injuries, he was secretly transported to Moscow, where he is undergoing treatment at one of Putin's residences after surgery.
More details on the elimination of Iran's leadership can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
