In Russia's Samara region this morning, March 22, drones were detected, and air defense systems were activated. An industrial facility in the city of Chapayevsk came under attack, according to Samara region governor Vyacheslav Fedorishev.

"Early this morning, the enemy attempted an attack on one of Chapayevsk's industrial enterprises," the official wrote on his Telegram channel.

He claimed that the air attack caused "no damage or casualties."

The governor of the Samara region also reported that one drone was allegedly shot down.

Notably, Russia's Ministry of Defense reported this morning that one UAV was allegedly shot down in the region and mentioned drone attacks across eight Russian regions in total.

Monitoring groups suggest that the drone strike in Chapayevsk may have targeted the Promsintez plant — a major producer of industrial explosives in Russia.

Footage showing explosions in the area was also shared on the Telegram channel Exilenova+, which claimed the plant could have been the intended target.

According to open sources, JSC Promsintez is the "successor" of the Samara Sergeyevsky explosive materials plant. The facility’s "technological processes for producing industrial explosives are automated, and particularly hazardous operations are carried out without technical personnel."

"The company is actively working to expand its product range," the source reports.

It’s worth recalling that in the summer of 2023, an explosion occurred at the Promsintez plant in Chapayevsk, Samara region, Russia. The incident at the facility, which produces explosives, resulted in the deaths of six people and left two others injured.

At the time, the Russian side claimed the explosion happened during the dismantling of a technical pipeline and stated that no fire followed the blast.
