In Oryol, a nighttime attack by unidentified drones caused multiple explosions, fires, and air defense activity, according to Russian Telegram channels.

The massive drone strike hit various parts of the city, triggering a series of explosions and fires. Eyewitnesses reported that the first blasts were heard around midnight, and within a few minutes, their number reached approximately 15.

Debris from one of the drones damaged a residential building, breaking several windows and prompting the temporary evacuation of some residents.

In one part of the city, a fire is ongoing, with local firefighters and emergency services working to extinguish it.

Local air defense units attempted to intercept the drones; the exact number of destroyed drones is currently unknown.

No official information has been released yet by the city administration or law enforcement agencies.

It should be noted that the city of Oryol, located in southwestern Russia, is an important economic and military center. For example, near Oryol is the Tsymbulova military base, which serves as Russia’s main hub for launching Iranian Shahed drones. This base has eight ground launch pads and a 2.8 km stretch of road where drones can be launched from vehicles.

In addition, the city hosts oil depots and energy facilities that supply fuel and power to central regions of Russia.

On the night of August 28, Russia launched over 600 drones and missiles against Ukraine.
