The idea of a supplement that could extend human life has long been a popular topic in the health and biohacking spheres. However, there is currently no scientific evidence for the existence of such a longevity pill, according to Ukrainian geneticist Oleksandr Koliada.

Why there is no evidence in humans

According to the expert, no large-scale experiment has yet tested the effect of a specific supplement on human lifespan.

Such a study would require giving a certain substance to a large group of people and observing them for decades, comparing the results with a control group. Due to the complexity, duration, and ethical issues, such research is almost impossible.

That is why science currently relies only on indirect data.

Which substances have shown effects in laboratories

Oleksandr Koliada notes that some results have been obtained in animal studies. In laboratory experiments, certain substances were able to extend the lifespan of test organisms.

Among these compounds, rapamycin and curcumin are frequently mentioned. In various experiments, they demonstrated the ability to influence aging processes and metabolism in animals.

However, such results do not mean that the same effects will necessarily occur in humans.

Why interventions in the body can be dangerous

The geneticist explains that the human body is an extremely complex system. Any substance that affects aging processes simultaneously alters the functioning of various biological mechanisms.

It is therefore important to understand not only the positive effects of a substance but also the possible side effects. A substance may enhance one process in the body while weakening another.

As a result, potential benefits may be accompanied by unwanted effects.

Why longevity supplements remain a hypothesis

According to Oleksandr Koliada, modern science is only beginning to understand which aging mechanisms can be controlled.

Therefore, the question of longevity supplements is currently more about research and hypotheses than verified medical recommendations.
