Do tapes really help get rid of wrinkles: Dermatologist's comment
Many people try various methods to reduce the signs of aging. One popular method involves using face tapes to smooth out forehead wrinkles. Dermatologists have weighed in on whether this approach is truly effective, citing Huffpost.
Are face tapes effective against wrinkles?
Dermatologist Stephanie Florez-Pollack explained that wrinkle tapes are popular in part because they are non-invasive, meaning you don't need to visit a doctor for the procedure.
Many experts claim that over time, you may notice fewer wrinkles on your forehead.
"I take issue with some of those statements because they are not evidence-based," the doctor said.
Many brands also assert that using facial tapes can retrain facial muscles to move less. However, this isn’t entirely accurate.
Surgeon Craig Lehrman said that it's not possible to simply retrain your muscles. When we apply something to the skin, it doesn't affect the muscle that causes the contraction.
So, when we remove the tape, even if the skin temporarily appears smoother, the underlying cause of the wrinkles—the muscle contraction itself—remains unaddressed.
Risks for body
Applying any type of adhesive to the skin can lead to irritation and clogged pores, resulting in the buildup of sebum and breakouts.
Additionally, face tapes can cause allergic reactions and irritation.
Face tapes won't reduce the signs of aging, but there are other measures that can help.
Daily use of sunscreen with SPF 30+ is crucial for long-term skin health, as are practices like staying hydrated and maintaining a nutritious diet.
Other helpful substances include topical retinol, antioxidants, and a good skincare routine.
It’s also important to remember that wrinkles are a normal part of aging.
