Detox days and why they are no good: Coach’s comment
"Fasting days" or detox days have become popular, supposedly helping to cleanse the body in one day. It is worth knowing whether such days are actually beneficial for the body, citing coach Yurii Popko.
Are detox days good for you?
A detox or fasting day is a one-day diet when a person eats one food in small portions all day, drinks plenty of water, and eats few calories.
On the Internet, you can find various variants of such diets, such as a kefir or cucumber fasting day.
Detox days can be organized not only after the holidays. They also give the body an impetus to lose weight.
You can do this once a week and then repeat it every week.
According to the expert, there is nothing useful about detox days.
Every day, the human body needs fats, proteins, carbohydrates and fiber.
The coach said that the body is home to trillions of bacteria in the stomach and intestines. They need soluble fiber.
In particular, if these bacteria are not fed with fiber, they feed on mucus that is on the walls of the large intestine, and when the mucus layer becomes small, it is bad. That's why you need to eat right every day.
Who should avoid detox days?
A negative side effect of detox days is a feeling of hunger. People may also experience weakness or decreased productivity.
Such side effects can be temporary until the body has adapted to the new food schedule.
Such days are especially harmful for people suffering from eating disorders.
This is especially important if::
- you have diabetes
- you have problems with blood sugar regulation
- you have low blood pressure
- you are taking medications
- you are underweight
- you are trying to get pregnant
- you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- you have a history of amenorrhea
