Denmark's Prime Minister on Zelenskyy's victory plan: There are very good ideas
There are good ideas in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's victory plan, but NATO membership is key, states Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen..
"This war should never have started, so none of us want anything more than peace. I think the victory plan presented has very, very good ideas. And I agree with Zelenskyy that the central element of this plan is NATO membership. It is the most important life insurance a country can have," Frederiksen said.
However, she noted that not all NATO member states support Ukraine's desire to receive an invitation to the Alliance. The US, in particular, is currently against such an initiative.
"There are those who remain very skeptical about Ukraine's membership in NATO. We actively support it from the Danish side. I will also mention this today," she stated ahead of the EU summit.
The Danish Prime Minister emphasized that while it is necessary to end the war between Ukraine and Russia as quickly as possible, it must be done "in a democratic and just way."
"Unfortunately, I see no signs that Russia is willing to recognize any democracy... Now, it is an enemy for all of us, and the victory plan must reflect how dangerous Russia is," Frederiksen added.
Therefore, in her opinion, Denmark and other NATO countries must now be prepared to continue spending much more on their defense. This is necessary to ensure that people can live in peace and security.
Victory plan
On October 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly revealed the nearly complete contents of the victory plan for the first time.
It turns out that the plan consists of five key points and three secret appendices. The first point is an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO before the war with Russia is over.
