Denmark, Norway to boost Ukraine's military with 9,000 artillery rounds
Denmark, along with Norway, will supply Ukraine with a new shipment of artillery ammunition, which amounts to 9,000 shells, as the Danish Ministry of Defence states.
According to the statement, Norway will supply the shells, while Denmark will provide the charges, fuses, detonators, and igniting tubes.
In addition to this, Norway is separately sending Ukraine 7,000 rounds of ammunition from its own stocks, which are already en route to Ukraine.
"Ukraine still has an urgent need for ammunition in its struggle against Russia. Denmark, along with other EU and NATO countries, is coordinating various measures. Together with Norway, we can send over 9,000 artillery rounds in full kit within a short time," said Troels Lund Poulsen, Acting Minister of Defence of Denmark.
This week, it was also announced that Denmark sent Ukraine another 1,500 artillery rounds and 500 grenades. In April, Denmark and Norway provided the Ukrainian army with 8,000 artillery rounds.
"Ukraine has an urgent need for artillery ammunition. Therefore, we decided to join efforts with Denmark for new assistance so that Ukraine receives the ammunition as soon as possible," said Bjørn Arild Gram, Minister of Defence of Norway.
Military aid from Denmark and Norway
Norway and Denmark, along with other European countries, have been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. They weren't the leaders in terms of supplying equipment, but after the Ukraine Defence Contact Group was organised, they supplied weapons to the Ukrainian army.
Norway provided artillery, tanks, and ammunition. Denmark provided howitzers, projectiles, and other equipment, and also joined the aviation coalition. Moreover, the media recently reported that Demmark will start Ukrainian pilots' training on F-16 fighters in August.
