Denmark announces new aid package for Ukraine and F-16 delivery time
The Danish government has announced a fresh military aid package to Ukraine worth nearly $250 million, according to Ekstra Bladet.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized Denmark's staunch support for Ukraine, labeling it as one of the foremost backers of the nation.
"We stand by Ukraine," Frederiksen said, noting that Copenhagen has already allocated 33 billion Danish kroner to aid Ukraine.
"Denmark has greenlit yet another assistance package for Ukraine, sending a resolute message of unwavering support," she said.
Frederiksen underscored that the new aid package for Ukraine would come at a considerable cost.
"Ukraine can count on Denmark's support for the next decade, as can several other nations. Freedom comes at a price," the Prime Minister remarked.
Meanwhile, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen disclosed that the cost of the new aid package amounts to 1.7 billion Danish kroner (approximately $247 million). He said that this initiative is being carried out in collaboration with other allies, including the Netherlands and Czechia. Poulsen also added that previous funding for military support has been allocated until 2028.
F-16 deliveries
Poulsen also announced that the first batch of Danish F-16 fighter jets will be dispatched to Ukraine this summer. However, he couldn't provide a precise timeline for the delivery.
Denmark's assistance
Denmark stands as one of Ukraine's partner nations, providing both military and humanitarian aid while supporting sanctions against Russia.
Denmark has previously supplied artillery to Ukraine and joined an aviation coalition for training and transferring F-16 fighter jets.
During the Munich Security Conference, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, where they discussed security commitments and cooperation between their countries.
