Has Kurakhove been fully occupied by the Russian Federation? What the Armed Forces say
According to the spokesperson of the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Troops, the Ukrainian Armed Forces maintain positions within the city of Kurakhove, and the Russians have not fully occupied the city.
"From my information, there are battles ongoing in the Kurakhove area. Ukrainian positions are being held at the power plant, which is part of Kurakhove city, so we cannot say that Russian troops have fully taken the city," he explained.
However, according to Trehubov, most of the city is simply "reduced to rubble, and we have to acknowledge that."
Situation in the Kurakhove area
Fighting for Kurakhove in Donetsk region has been ongoing for several months.
As early as late November, RBC-Ukraine reported that the situation around Kurakhove could descend into a "fog of war." A similar situation had been observed with Vuhledar and Selydiv.
Earlier, military-political analyst from the "Information Resistance" group, Oleksandr Kovalenko, expressed his opinion to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel, suggesting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may indeed have to withdraw from Kurakhove, but by that time, Russian forces will be severely depleted.
