Debris fall, fires, injuries: Aftermath of Russian strike on Kyiv
Debris from an overnight missile strike fell across four districts in Kyiv, with reports of one injured and fires breaking out, according to the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Serhii Popko, and the mayor of the capital, Vitalii Klitschko.
According to Serhii Popko, debris from the enemy missile strike was recorded in the following districts:
- Holosiivskyi
- Sviatoshynskyi
- Dniprovskyi
- Shevchenkivskyi
"Preliminarily, there are reports of fires. The details regarding damage and casualties are being clarified. Emergency services are heading to the locations," said Popko.
Meanwhile, Mayor Klitschko reported that in the Shevchenkivskyi district, where debris was detected, medical personnel were attending to one injured individual.
Updated: damaged boiler house, burning cars, and small shops
Later, the mayor reported that a boiler house had been partially destroyed in the Holosiivskyi district, and emergency response teams were currently on the scene.
Additionally, he noted that four vehicles caught fire in the Sviatoshynskyi district due to falling rocket debris, while a non-residential building was ablaze in the Holosiivskyi district.
"In Sviatoshynskyi, there is preliminary information of debris falling on a warehouse, and there are fires in the Shevchenkivskyi district as well. All emergency services are working at the sites," the capital's mayor stated.
Klitschko also mentioned a fire that had broken out near a subway station shop. According to him, some glass elements at the entrance to the Sviatoshyn metro station were partially damaged, though the station continues to operate for passengers and as a shelter.
Nighttime shelling and explosions in Kyiv
Earlier reports indicated that around midnight, an explosion was heard in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region after Shahed drones were detected heading toward the city.
Around 1 a.m., explosions were also heard in Kharkiv, where two strikes by kamikaze drones were confirmed in the city’s Kyivskyi and Slobidskyi districts. Local authorities have reported no casualties so far.
In addition, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv and many other regions on the night of September 2 due to the threat of a missile attack. The alert was later extended to the entire country.
Missile launches were recorded, and a series of explosions were heard in Kyiv, with air defense operations underway in the capital.
