Death toll rises to 37 after Russian strike on warehouses near Kyiv

The death toll from Russia’s strike on warehouses in the village of Myla in Kyiv region on the evening of August 28 has risen to 37, according to Kyiv Regional Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko.
“Unfortunately, the death toll in Bucha district has risen to 37. A terrible and irreparable loss. My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed,” Tkachenko said.
According to him, work at the site is ongoing. Rescuers and all relevant services continue to operate at the scene of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense reported that rescuers are still trying to locate two people believed to be trapped under the rubble in Myla.
The ministry said that all officials responsible for the Security and Defense Forces and Ukraine’s defense industry must conduct a full audit of locations where weapons and ammunition are stored. Such facilities should not be located near residential buildings.
Strike on warehouses in Kyiv region
As a reminder, Russian forces struck warehouses in Bucha district, Kyiv region, with drones on the evening of August 28. The fire was accompanied by explosions and subsequent detonations.
Many people were killed and injured. Among the 37 fatalities was Tymur Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community.
Residential buildings and a care facility were also damaged, while a large-scale evacuation is underway.
Due to the massive fire, authorities temporarily closed a section of the M-06 Kyiv–Chop highway between kilometers 15 and 32 to all traffic.
The Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation in Bucha district, where the strike caused a detonation at an industrial facility. Investigators will, among other things, examine whether the storage of explosive materials at the site was lawful.
