In Ukraine's Sumy region, a Russian Lancet drone struck a checkpoint. At the time, a police officer was present there.

RBC-Ukraine reports on what is known about the incident and the condition of the police officer.

A video recently circulated online showed a Russian Lancet (a loitering munition) hitting a checkpoint in the Sumy region, located at a crossroads.

Footage from a surveillance camera shows the timestamp as 11:57 AM on May 27. Before the strike, a person can be seen standing under the shelter at the checkpoint. The Russian drone then makes a direct hit on the checkpoint.

According to Ukraine’s National Police, the police officer who was at the checkpoint during the strike survived. He sustained injuries and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Situation in the Sumy region

Since the Russian army became more active in the spring of 2025, the situation in the border areas of the Sumy region has remained difficult and tense.

Border settlements are under constant fire. Dozens of enemy attacks are recorded daily - using mortars, artillery, kamikaze drones, and guided aerial bombs. The communities suffering the most from the aggressor’s terror are Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Krasnopillia, Yunakivka, and Khotin.

Last night, in particular, the enemy launched an attack using strike drones on the Stetskivka local administration in the Sumy district. As a result, four residential buildings were damaged and a power line was destroyed, leaving around ten homes without electricity.
